A debit card is a card that enables the cardholder to have purchases immediately charged to their account. The account could offer overdraft facilities as an additional feature. In 2019, there were approximately 99.2 million cards with a debit function in the United Kingdom. Although gaining popularity over the past couple of years, credit cards are still less popular than debit cards.
