Opinion on Edmonton Eskimos name and logo in the U.S. as of 2020
Founded in 1949, the Edmonton Eskimos are a Canadian football team belonging to the Western Division of the Canadian Football League. The team colors are green and yellow and the logo is an oval with two Es merged together. The teams has won the Gray Cup on fourteen occasions, including five times in a row from 1978 to 1982. During a July 2020 survey in the United States, eight percent of respondents found the team name and imagery very offensive as it is seen to perpetuate negative stereotypes. In the same month, the team officially retired the "Eskimos" name.
