In the fiscal year 2019, the achievement rate for water quality standards of lakes in Japan amounted to around 50 percent. Figures peaked in 2015, reaching almost 59 percent, but indicated a downwards trend in more recent years. Compared to the water quality standards of rivers, and sea areas, lakes recorded the lowest achievement rate in recent years.
