Number of institutions offering payment services in the EU-27 as a whole 2013-2021

The total number of payment service providers in the whole of the European Union, including the Eurozone and other EU countries, has gradually declined between 2010 to 2019. As of 2013, there was a total of 8,256 financial institutions operating in the EU, which has since fallen to 7,227 as of 2019.

This pattern is similar to that of the Eurozone payment service providers, which has also gradually declined over this period.
