Foreign tourism visitor spending as a share of exports in South Africa 2009-2020
In 2020, international tourist spending in South Africa accounted for just over three percent of the country's total exports, which represented some 2.8 billion U.S. dollars. The share declined significantly from 8.5 percent in 2019 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic travel restrictions. During the period under review, the share of foreign tourist spending as a share of exports in the country was highest in 2010 at 10.3 percent.
