GHG emissions progress and projections in the EU-27 2021-2030, by sector
Greenhouse gas emissions from the European Union's energy supply sector fell roughly 40 percent between 2005 and 2022, to an estimated 902 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e). It is projected that with additional national policies and measures, EU energy supply emissions in 2030 could drop to roughly 500 MtCO₂e. Emissions from the transportation sector, which is the second-largest source of EU emissions, are projected to drop to 639 MtCO₂e with additional measures. The EU has a net GHG emissions reduction target of 55 percent below 1990 levels by 2030.
