Over the same period, average gross earnings grew from 31,500 Euros to almost 38,000 euros, while taxes and social security contributions rose from a combined total of 10,368 Euros in 2013 to almost 11,900 in 2022. While taxes and social security contributions decreased during the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021 due to government policies aiming to support incomes, they rose again to above pre-pandemic levels in 2022.
