Same-sex marriages and registered partnerships in Finland 2013-2023, by gender
In 2023, 254 female couples and 119 male couples got married in Finland. The number of same-sex marriages and registered partnerships fluctuated between 300 and 400 in most years during the period from 2013 to 2023. In 2017, the number of marriages peaked after the legislation in Finland was changed to allow same-sex unions.
Same-sex marriage became legal in Finland after an amendment to the Marriage Act entered into force on 1 March 2017. Since then, over 2,800 couples have tied the knot. From 2002 to 2017, registration of partnership was available for same-sex couples.
