Domestic tourism spending in the Netherlands increased in 2022 compared to 2019, the year before the onset of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Overall, the expenditure by domestic travelers in the country amounted to roughly 64.6 billion euros in 2022. This figure was forecast to reach an estimated 75.7 billion euros in 2033.
Domestic vs. inbound tourism in the Netherlands
In 2022, domestic spending accounted for more than 80 percent of the total travel and tourism expenditure in the Netherlands. Overall, while spending by domestic travelers recovered from the impact of the health crisis, international tourism receipts in the Netherlands bounced back in 2022 but remained below pre-pandemic levels.
