Cardiovascular disease (except for stroke and ischaemic heart disease) was the leading cause of death among females in Italy, accounting for over 56 thousand deaths in 2012. Cancer (apart from breast, lung, stomach and colorectal cancer) was the leading cause of death among men, accounting for 58.6 thousand cases.
