According to a survey on food and beverages companies in Malaysia conducted in January 2019, 75 percent of the respondents were of the opinion that the national nutrition targets and guidelines were clear enough. Malaysia has one of the highest rates of obesity in Asia, and the government has taken measures to curb this problem such as introducing a sugar tax in 2019.
