CO₂ emitted by a container vessel converted from LNG to ammonia 2022
In 2022, a container ship operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG) with a capacity of 15,000 TEUs produced around 2.4 million tons of CO2 emissions during its whole lifetime. If converted to run on ammonia after 10 years of operation, the total amount of CO2 emitted by the ship would drop to some 1.1 million tons. A conversion after just five years of operation would result in a total amount of CO2 emission amounting to 656,000 tons of CO2.
