Triennial debit card penetration in the Netherlands 2011-2024, by demographic
According to a three-year survey, more than nine out of 10 respondents from the Netherlands owned a debit card in 2021, with over 90 percent actually using one. The difference between ownership and usage was roughly five percentage points in 2021, a similar difference in percentage points when compared to 2017. The report adds that women were more likely than men to own such a payment card. Gen Z - or the age group 15 to 24 years in this survey - were as likely to own a debit card than their older counterparts.
