During the 2018 midterm election, President Trump's party, the Republicans, lost 40 seats in the House of Representatives and gained two seats in the U.S. Senate. At the subsequent midterm election in 2022, Joe Biden's party lost nine seats in the House, but picked up a seat in the Senate.
