U.S. monthly new-well oil production per rig in 2021-2024, by region
The Bakken and Eagle Ford basins recorded the highest monthly new-well oil production per rig in April 2024, at 1,743 and 1,630 barrels per day, respectively. In January 2024, adverse weather conditions were responsible for the slump in productivity of the Bakken basin. Despite only ranking third in terms of new-well production, the Permian basin is the largest oil producing region overall.
