For over three decades, the United States has produced more transportation emissions than any other country across the globe. In 2022, transportation emissions in the United States reached 1.72 billion metric tons (GtCO₂), a slight increase from the previoius year. Meanwhile, the European Union was the second-largest contributor to global transportation emissions up until 2013, but in 2014 it dropped below China. Transportation emissions in the East Asian country have soared over the past two decades and in 2022 climbed to some 873 MtCO₂.
