Share of public housing households with a disability in U.S. 2022, by state
In 2022, Vermont had the highest proportion of public housing households where either the head or co-head of the family had a disability in the United States. Approximately 83 percent of the households in government-aided housing in Vermont had a person with a disability, much higher than the national average of 32 percent. Idaho and New Hampshire also saw high numbers, at 79 and 66 percent, respectively. In contrast, Puerto Rico had the lowest percentage of households with either a head or co-head with disabilities, registering just eight percent.
