Information on the basic population: The survey is based on the German population aged between 14 and 69 years, in private households, at main residence of living.

Information on the sample:
2009: 9,668 respondents, projected on 54.58 million people
2010: 9,036 respondents, projected on 54.21 million people
2011: 8,639 respondents, projected on 53.54 million people
2012: 8,213 respondents, projected on 53.03 million people
2013: 7,410 respondents, projected on 52.60 million people

The question was phrased by the source like this: "Do you use the internet, or do you plan to use the internet, or do you have no such plans? It does not matter if it is at home, at work or somewhere else."
(Original German question: "Nutzen Sie das Internet, oder haben Sie vor, das Internet zu nutzen, oder haben Sie das nicht vor? Ich meine jetzt egal, ob zu Hause, am Arbeitsplatz oder anderswo.")

* Persons with "internet potential" are defined as persons who plan to use the internet in the future.
