In 2023, the there were more private renters in London, England, than owner-occupiers with a mortgage. Approximately 1.1 million households occupied a privately rented home, compared to less than a million that were buying a home with a mortgage. Additionally, approximately 881,000 households owned their home without a mortgage. Although buying a house in London is far from affordable, it is still cheaper than renting.
